Hola! A very happy Monday morning to everyone.

Hola! A very happy Monday morning to everyone.
It’s been miserably hot (at least for me) here in Southern California. I’m not too sure about everyone else but when it gets hot, all my creative juices seem to evaporate. There’s plenty to be done but currently the will is lacking. I did manage to get a couple of tote bag samples made for an upcoming class. I started out making a bag from a tutorial I found online and before the bag was even constructed I was already making some changes to the pattern. I’ve had this cute comic book fabric for a while now and was waiting for the appropriate project to incorporate it into. The fabric works well with this tote and I’m pleased with the outcome. However, being able to take a picture of the bag with the crazy winds we’ve had this week has been a real challenge. I would love some feedback…let me know what you think.
Yesterdays class was a lot of fun. All the students quickly picked up on the techniques that I was teaching. I always enjoy seeing the different fabric choices people make. So many incredibly different looks from the same design. A big thank you to everyone that participated in the class and to superbuzzy for having us. Now, back to designing for the next class!
I spent the day making pincushions for the students in my curved geese class I’m teaching tomorrow at SuperBuzzy in Ventura. Just a little tip: you can buy crushed walnut shell for filling pincushions at a pet store…they sell it for lining the bottom of a birdcage. It’s a little cheaper and you can buy it in bulk. Believe me, since I make pincushions for all my students, I go through LOTS of crushed walnut shell! I’ll try to post photos from class tomorrow…have a great weekend!
The next challenge with Ventura Modern Quilt Guild is a half square triangle challenge. We can make anything we’d like but, it needs to incorporate half square triangles. I made a few designs on Saturday and wasn’t too impressed with what I’d come up with. So I just started making HST’s with no design in mind. I’m guessing some inspiration will hit me at some point. There’s 480 HST’s from 24 different fabrics. I went with solids to give it a modern feel. Squaring up these little boogers wasn’t the most fun. Now, I’ll just sit here and wait for inspiration to hit me.

I posted Saturday that I would complete my Astronomical Star Block before the weekend was over. I know the weekend is over…but here it is. I’m going to hang onto it a bit longer and see if anyone else from my guild is making one and then we can send them together. I really like this block. Oh no! I’m sensing another project. If your making a block for this challenge shoot me a pic and I’d love to see your blocks.

I feel blessed to be able to spend Easter with my family. After all these years, only 29 of which I will admit to, Mom still makes/gets me an Easter basket. Usually she makes my basket but this year she saw a Reeces themed basket and she knew I’d love it. Peanut butter and chocolate can never be wrong. Happy Easter everyone.
I’ve added this challenge to my ‘to do’ list and I hope to get the block finished by the end of this weekend.
Astronaut Karen Nyberg has invited all of us to join her in making a quilt! From NASA’s press release in October:
International Space Station Expedition 37 Flight Engineer Karen Nyberg of NASA, a lifelong lover of sewing, is inviting fellow crafters to join her in stitching together a global community space quilt.
Nyberg, who is in the final weeks of her mission aboard the orbiting laboratory, recently shared a star-themed quilt block she was able to complete during her limited free time in space. She is now inviting quilters from the public to create their own star-themed quilt blocks to help celebrate her mission and passion for the quilting arts.
“Now that I’ve tried my hand sewing in space, I can say one thing with certainty: it’s tricky,” Nyberg said in a video sent down from the space station. “This is what I’ve made. It’s far from being a masterpiece…
